More than 60 million pilgrims are expected to gather in Ujjain for Kumbh Mela (Simhastha). Such huge religious confluences are vulnerable to stampedes and other accidents. In order to address this issue, a research grant has been made available by the Indian Department of Electronic and Information Technology (DEITY) and The Netherlands Scientific Research Organization (NWO) together with the contributions from the industry (i.a. TATA, Tech Mahindra) for the joint Indo-Dutch research project on pervasive communications and computing: “The Kumbh Mela experiment: measuring and understanding the dynamics of mankind’s largest crowd”.

‘Smart Cities Connect’ is an event to showcase Dutch expertise in the fields of water, waste, mobility, designing among others. The program includes keynote speeches from the Pune Municipal Commission and Amsterdam Smart city. It will be followed by panel discussions and presentations from companies on smart city solutions.

The EU film festival screenings are progressing quite successfully and receiving very good responses throughout India. From 30th of July till 6th of August, the films will return to New Delhi and air at the Siri Fort Auditorium in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MoIB). If you missed the Dutch film screening of ‘Michiel de Ruyter’ at the EU film festival, the 3rd of August at 15.30 is your second chance to bare witness to the great Dutch admiral and see him in action!

These events are organised by The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – New Delhi , Eye International and Pune Film Foundation, with the support of National Film Archive of India – Pune and MIT School of Film and Television – Pune.
