The political section of the Embassy of The Netherlands works to expand and intensify the bilateral relations between The Netherlands and India.

The main task of the political section is to follow, analyze and report on the political developments in India. This includes developments in domestic and international Indian policies, the interaction between central and local governments and the introduction of new policies in areas such as public safety, immigration, social policy and the rule of law. The political section also reports on other important aspects of Indian society including freedom of the media, the process of democratization and human rights.

The political section implements the policies of the Dutch government and promotes understanding for Dutch viewpoints among the Indian public. In addition, the section endorses and adheres to the European Union’s foreign and security policies.

Furthermore, the political section maintains contacts with the Indian government, academic and research institutes such as think tanks, other diplomatic missions in New Delhi and relevant institutions and organisations involved in policymaking and analysis.

Also, the political section maintains contacts with international organisations and national organisations working in India as well as with NGOs.

In addition, the political section provides organizational and logistical support to Dutch delegations such as ministers, parliamentarians and civil servants during their official and working visits to India.
